I’m voting for Kamala, but just because she’s a woman!

…Said no one ever.

But oddly (and annoyingly) enough, I keep seeing and hearing conservatives accuse this of being the only reason anyone is voting for her. It’s stupid just to vote for someone based on gender! they retort. And honestly, I agree with them. That’s why it’s infuriating that we’ve gone 235 years without a woman as President.

Maybe it’s those people who should be looking in the mirror and telling themselves that same thing, instead of telling us. Because I’m pretty sure we aren’t just voting for her because she’s a woman, but they are not voting for her because she is. And a POC woman, at that.

Misogyny, sexism, and racism is implicitly etched in us and our institutions at every turn. I’m sure (or I hope) they don’t literally think, Well, she’s a woman, so I won’t vote for her. But the extent to which she is slandered (particularly by her opponent), accused of terrible things, nitpicked, judged…it’s unwarranted, and unfair, and Trump is not being assessed in the same way. As they say, “He can be lawless; she has to be flawless.”
