No matter what happens today, no matter who gets elected, there will work to be done.

It’s a harsh truth, and we often don’t want to admit that even when our preferred candidate wins, it won’t make the system perfect. It won’t further the rights and well-being of everyone with the snap of a finger. It requires action on the part of us, the people, to keep things going, to keep fighting the good fight.

Of course, this election is in part (or maybe largely) about harm reduction. There’s one outcome that will significantly reduce the chances of harm to our rights, our liberties, and our well-being. There’s another outcome that will further ignite fear and hatred.

If Donald Trump wins, we fight like hell to save what is left of this country. And if Kamala wins, that means there’s hope of empathy and decency still existing — but we also still need to fight like hell, to not lose momentum just because we got the answer we wanted, to not forget to criticize and protest and hold politicians accountable when they aren’t acting in the interests of we, the people.

As I sit writing this…
