I’m going to take it that you’ve never been around cops since your attitude indicates that you want to paint all of a profession with the same silly brush. As a fireman I work around cops nearly every day and I’ll say flat out…you’re a liberal writer with your head up your ass. Why don’t you come down here and let me introduce you to real cops who aren’t racist, don’t exist simply to write tickets and bully motorists, and believe that their job is to protect the public whether they are black, white, or polka dotted! Your article reeks of disdain for the very people who would risk their lives so that you don’t have to soil your dainty feelings by actually taking a stand and getting your hands dirty. Yes, there are bad cops, just as there are bad apples in every profession in America…writers included. Why don’t you actually get out on the street and research your subject instead of sitting around scarfing the ideology of the rabid left?
Frank – so glad you felt strongly enough to send me a response, but perhaps it would have been prudent to read the article more thoroughly (or, if you did, I apologize if I’m exposing any of your ignorance). I actually wrote this article about the violence of the system and not every single cop. Because the system is violent, every cop is a part of that, whether they have directly participated in one of these heinous acts or not. It’s the system we need to change, not every single individual within it. If you had read the article I’m sure you would have gathered that!
With that being said, though, I’m glad that you decided to share your point of view. As a writer, my job is to make people think and feel something, and clearly you have. I have succeeded with that goal!
Thanks for sharing.
