At this time last week — about 11:20pm on a Tuesday night — I was curled up on my couch, grasping for comfort as I resisted panic and felt the horror of November 2016 all over again.

No, that’s not accurate. It was worse than the horror of November 2016. Because we’ve been through a Trump term now. We’ve witnessed his corruption. We saw what happened on January 6th. We saw him get impeached. We saw the MSG rally. We saw him sidling up to Netanyahu and Elon Musk. We saw his sexual assault conviction. We’ve watched while speakers at his rallies made sweepingly racist remarks and called an entire commonwealth “garbage.” Where does it end?

On the night of November 5th, the utter dread crept in again as I watched him be elected a second time.

I stayed up until 3am. By about midnight, I knew there was no hope left. Trump had won Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and Wisconsin and Michigan had both turned red. The Senate was a flush of red, too. The House was undetermined (and still is, as I write this) but looking grim. Harris’ staff had already announced the cancellation of her speech at Howard University. I kept thinking, We’re so
