Not every white person consciously has the intention of oppressing other races, but as white people, we are born into a system of racism. We are — and always have been — the oppressors, both throughout history and in the modern-day world. In order to address and dismantle racism, it is our responsibility to understand that and to educate ourselves on how to work against that system, be actively anti-racist, and support BIPOC communities instead. Of course, as a white person, I do not have all the answers (or any at all) and it would be dismissive and completely inappropriate to pretend that I do. But instead, I’m going to educate myself. I am going to listen to BIPOC and learn from them. I am going to get out into the community and take action. I’m going to make this as much a part of my life as it always should have been. I have much to learn and much to do, and I’m going to welcome that. I think we should all share that mindset. I hope you will consider that.
